Consultancy and Professional Development

Jake provides research and statistical consultancy services to a range of clients including government departments, non-profit organisations, and private sector companies. This work has included providing advice on all stages of the research lifecycle (spanning design, data collection, analysis, and reporting), professional review services for research commissioners (on evaluation protocols, statistical analysis plans, and final reporting), and providing training and capacity building in quantitative methods.

Jake provides professional development focused on the use of experimental and quasi-experimental impact evaluation methods (for example, matching and weighting methods, longitudinal designs, and randomised controlled trials), primarily with applications in education. These can be tailored to organisations’ existing expertise and experience profiles, helping improve teams’ understanding of such methods and, hence, their ability to interpret evidence from and supervise work on these kinds of projects, for example.

In carrying out such work, Jake is able to draw on his extensive experience in a range of quantitative research methods — including experimental and quasi-experimental methods for causal inference, longitudinal survey data collection and analysis, etc.) — and support their implementation across a range of software packages (including Stata, R, and Python).
